“INBW15: Who Exactly Is a Healthcare Consumer?”

A lot of talk lately about healthcare consumerism and the possibility that consumerism can counter the outrageous escalation of healthcare costs in this country. Many people think Medicare is the largest healthcare payer, but that would be wrong. It’s actually out-of-pocket expenses that patients are paying. Patients are the biggest healthcare payers in this country. But in order for healthcare consumerism to affect any change, it boils down to employees/patients/consumers taking responsibility for the costs they’re racking up. Costs that either they themselves are paying, or those that their employers or the government is paying on their behalf.
